The federal government on Saturday allowed export of 6 million tonnes of sugar on quota foundation until Could 31, in line with a meals ministry notification.
As per the notification, the ministry has allotted a uniform export quota of 18.23 per cent of the three years common manufacturing of the sweetener in operational sugar seasons.
Sugar mills can export themselves or by exporters or swap with home sale quota of another mills, it stated.
Sugar season runs from October to September.
“So as to forestall uncontrolled export of sugar or with a view to make sure adequate availability of sugar for home consumption at an inexpensive value, authorities has determined to permit export of sugar as much as an inexpensive restrict with impact from November 1 until Could 31, 2023,” it stated.
