Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag said that Cristiano Ronaldo is “totally committed” to the club after the Portuguese icon scored a penalty in a 2-0 win against Sheriff in the Europa League on Thursday, September 15.

Ronaldo along with Jadon Sancho brought Manchester United back on track after the Premier League side’s resurgence was interrupted by a home defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad last week. But in the match against Sheriff, Manchester United responded well and bounced back.

Erik ten Hag said that he believes Ronaldo still has a big part to play in the club.

“He’s totally committed to this project, totally committed to this team, totally involved, he also has connections that are coming around him and he is constructing connections, so I’m happy with that,” ten Hag said about Ronaldo.

“He has to work really hard and invest to get the right fitness. He will score more goals. He’s really close, when he gets more fitness he will score more.”

Sancho gave Manchester United an early lead in the 17th minute after receiving a pass from Christian Eriksen. Interestingly, earlier in the day, Sancho was dropped from England’s squad.

Sancho termed him being left out of the England squad as “unfortunate”, but stressed “I have to just keep focusing on myself and keep on working hard, week in and week out, that’s what I’ll do.”

Ronaldo then doubled the advantage in the 39th minute. It is to be noted that Erik ten Hag gave a start to Ronaldo, who was benched during the opening weeks of the Premier League. The Portuguese star claimed his 699th club goal in the 39th minute.

Manchester United have joined Sheriff on three points in Group E, with Real Sociedad at the top with 6 points following their victory over Omonia Nicosia.
