A teacher flung a Class 5 student from the first floor at a government school in Delhi today.
The child, Vandana, is in hospital and said to be in a critical state. Gita Deshwal, the teacher, has been arrested.
The incident took place at around 11.15 am at the Delhi Nagar Nigam Balika Vidyalaya.
Gita allegedly attacked Vandana with a pair of scissors before throwing her off the first-floor classroom in a rage.
Another teacher, Riya, reportedly tried to intervene and stop her colleague from beating the child.
When the girl fell from the first floor, witnesses gathered and called the police, who took the severely injured child to the Bara Hindu Rao hospital.
All necessary tests including a CT scan have been done. The child is safe and stable and responding well. The civic body said it would bear all expenditure of the girl’s treatment
The teacher has been suspended and further investigation is being conducted by the department, a senior Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) official told Press Trust of India.
“The teacher has been detained by the police. The MCD has also suspended her with immediate effect,” the senior official added.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code is being registered on the statement of the eyewitness.
