Twitter owner Elon Musk said he is fine with Donald Trump not tweeting and the important thing is that a “grave mistake” has been fixed. Trump, the former US President, was reinstated on the micro-blogging site following a poll.
Musk said deplatforming a sitting President undermined public trust in Twitter.
By India Today Web Desk: Twitter chief Elon Musk said he was fine with Donald Trump not tweeting days after reinstating the former US President following a Twitter poll where 51.8 per cent of people voted in favour of Trump’s return to the micro-blogging site.
Although Donald Trump’s account was reinstated after the Twitter poll results, the Republican, who recently announced his bid for the 2024 US Presidential election, said he would stick with his new platform Truth Social. Trump hasn’t tweeted anything since.
Responding to Donald Trump’s reluctance to come back on Twitter, ‘Chief Twit’ Elon Musk said, “I’m fine with Trump not tweeting. The important thing is that Twitter correct a grave mistake in banning his account, despite no violation of the law or terms of service.”
Donald Trump was permanently suspended (banned) from Twitter “due to the risk of further incitement of violence” after his supporters stormed the US Capitol as it was preparing to certify Democrat Joe Biden’s presidential win.
“Deplatforming a sitting President undermined public trust in Twitter for half of America,” Musk added.

Elon Musk also revealed that he was a “significant supporter” of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump during the last US presidential elections.
“But freedom of speech is the bedrock of a strong democracy and must take precedence. My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would be the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far,” the Tesla CEO said.
Musk had earlier reinstated accounts tied to conservative media personality Jordan Peterson and the satirical website Babylon Bee. These reinstatements come after Musk said last month that Twitter will be forming a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints”.
