Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani has been granted bail by a court docket in Assam in a case of alleged assault on a policewoman.
Mr Mevani was re-arrested within the alleged assault case on April 25 simply after he as granted bail by one other court docket in Assam in a case over tweets on Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The MLA was accused of “assaulting and outraging” the modesty of a girl police officer within the new case towards him.
Mr Mevani was first arrested on Thursday final from Gujarat’s Palanpur by a workforce of Assam Police after an area BJP chief from Assam’s Kokrajhar filed a grievance towards him. Mr Mevani – an arch critic of PM Modi – has known as his arrest “vendetta politics by the PMO (Prime Minister’s Workplace)”.
“It’s a conspiracy by the BJP and the RSS. They did this to tarnish my picture. They’ve been doing this systematically. They did it to Rohit Vemula, they did it to Chandrasekhar Azad, now they’re focusing on me,” Mr Mevani advised reporters on the day he acquired bail within the tweets case.
Within the tweets case, the 41-year-old was charged with legal conspiracy, offence associated to put of worship, outraging non secular emotions, and provocation that may result in breach of peace.
