Leave immediately: Advisory for Indians in Ukraine as Russia steps up assault

By India Today Web Desk: Indians have been advised against travelling to Ukraine and those in the country have been asked to leave immediately as Russia intensifies its offensive on its war-ravaged neighbour.

“In view of the deteriorating security situation and recent escalation of hostilities across Ukraine, Indian nationals are advised against travelling to Ukraine,” the Indian Embassy in Kyiv said in an advisory.

“The Indian citizens, including students, currently in Ukraine are advised to leave Ukraine at the earliest by available means,” the advisory added.

Following the assault, Ukraine’s foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba on Tuesday said he was submitting a proposal to President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to formally cut diplomatic ties with Iran, which reportedly promised to provide more drones and surface to surface missiles to Russia.

Kuleba said he had urged the European Union to impose sanctions on Iran “for helping Russia to kill Ukrainians”.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 in a pre-dawn attack. India led a massive evacuation drive following the invasion, flying out citizens, including students, caught in the crossfire of an intense war.
