By India Today Web Desk: A Russian-made rocket landed in eastern Poland near Ukraine and killed two citizens in explosions on early Wednesday. After the explosion, NATO member Poland summoned Russia’s ambassador to Warsaw for an explanation after Moscow denied it was responsible.

US President Joe Biden called an ’emergency’ meeting with G7 and NATO leaders after Poland claimed that a ‘Russian-made’ missile killed two people in the country. Global leaders gathered for the G20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia, held an emergency meeting on Wednesday after the explosions hit Poland.

When asked was the missile fired from Russia, Joe Biden said, “There is preliminary information that contests that. I don’t want to say that until we completely investigate it but it’s… it’s unlikely in the minds of the trajectory that it was fired from Russia.” (sic)

Here are the top developments:

  • After Russian missiles struck the village of Przewodów, district Hrubieszów, Lubelskie province in Poland and killed two citizens, Minister of Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau summoned the ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Polish MFA and demanded immediate and detailed explanation.

  • US President Joe Biden convened an emergency meeting of the G7 and NATO leaders in Indonesia for consultations after the strikes. Leaders from the United States, Germany, Canada, Netherlands, Japan, Spain, Italy, France and the United Kingdom took part in the meeting, reported Reuters.

“There were scores & scores of missile attacks in western Ukraine. We support Ukraine fully at this moment, as we have since the start. We will do whatever it takes to give them the capacity to defend themselves,” the President said.

  • The leaders were briefly seen together around a conference table at the start of the meeting. When asked about whether US President can share what he knows about the explosion, Joe Biden replied ‘no’. He did not comment when asked about what involvement Russia might have.

  • In a statement, Polish foreign ministry spokesperson Łukasz Jasina said,”On 15 November 2022, another hours-long, massive shelling took place of the entire territory of Ukraine and its critical infrastructure by the armed forces of the Russian Federation. At 3:40 pm, a Russia-made missile dropped on the village of Przewodów, district Hrubieszów, Lubelskie province, and resulted in the death of two citizens of the Republic of Poland. They hit the territory of a friendly nation, and people were killed. Please accept condolences from all Ukrainian brothers.”

  • Zelenskiy further criticised Russia for the alleged missile strikes and said, “The terrorist has to be shown its place. The longer Russia feels impunity the more threats it will create for all who are within range of Russian missiles. To fire missiles at NATO territory! This is a Russian missile attack on collective security! It’s a significant escalation. Action is required. I now want to tell everyone of our Polish brothers and sisters – UA will always support you. Free people won’t be broken by terror. Victory is possible when there is no fear. And we and you are not afraid.”
