HIGHLIGHTS

  • Arsenal are currently at the top of the Premier League table after 7 matches
  • Arsenal lead closest rivals Manchester City by 1 point in the Premier League
  • Arsene Wenger pointed out that there are no clear favourites this season

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that the London-based team has a good chance of lifting the Premier League trophy this season. Going into the international break, Arsenal stand at the top of the league table, with 18 points from 7 matches. The Mikel Arteta side is closely followed by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Sky Sports the legendary Premier League manager pointed out that a topsy-turvy start to the season meant that there were no clear favourites in this year’s competition and it would be a good chance for Arsenal to charge for the trophy.

“I would say they have a good chance this season because I don’t see any super dominating team,” Wenger told Sky Sports.

“I believe that it is a good opportunity to do it this season,” the former manager further added.

“Of course, it’s a little bit of a special season as well, because you have the World Cup in the middle and you don’t know how much that will affect the performances of the individual players and of the teams,” Wenger said

“Overall, I believe there is a good opportunity there this season,” Wenger concluded.

In the current edition of Premier League, top clubs like Manchester City and Liverpool have been given a run for their money by the mid-tier clubs, who have come out with aggressive intent. The likes of Manchester United have been defeated by Brentford, only to make Premier League more entertaining this season.

Arsenal have just one game in the Premier League this season, falling to Manchester United 1-3. Arteta’s side next faces Tottenham Hotspur in London Derby, on October 1.
