By India Today Web Desk: India captain Rohit Sharma admitted that his side will need to do a lot of things right to fulfill the ultimate motive of winning the T20 World Cup in Australia. India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in 2007, but since then, they have managed to reach the final of the tournament in just 2014 as the second T20 WC title continues to elude them.

“It’s been a while since we won the World Cup. The motive and the whole thought process is to win the World Cup but we know we need to do a lot of things right to get there, so one step at a time for us,” Rohit Sharma said in a video posted by BCCI.

“We can’t think too far ahead. You really cannot think about semis and finals from now onwards. You just need to focus on each team that you are gonna go against and try and do your best and prepare for that. Our focus will be on preparing well against each team and making sure that we move in the right direction,” Rohit added.

India are heading into the T20 World Cup on the back of 2 home series wins against Australia and South Africa. Rohit Sharma’s men seem to have put behind the disappointment of the Asia Cup early exit to bounce back strong in the home series. India will kick start its T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Mohammed Shami replaced the injured Jasprit Bumrah in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022. After Deepak Chahar was ruled out due to injury, India named two players – Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur – in the reserves alongside Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi.

India squad: Rohit Sharma (c), KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Deepak Hooda, Rishabh Pant, Dinesh Karthik, Hardik Pandya, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami.
