By India Today Web Desk: Manchester United put on their “best team performance” in this Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Tottenham but it was overshadowed by Cristiano Ronaldo’s act at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Substitute Ronaldo, who seemed unhappy at being overlooked for the match, walked down the tunnel before the final whistle. However, United manager Erik ten Hag seemed unaffected with the incident.

“I don’t pay attention today, we will deal with that tomorrow,” ten Hag said. “I want to focus on this team, on these 11 players.

“Against this Tottenham, you need good pressing, good counter-pressing, from there you can create chances. So you need good pressing players. Offensive wise you need that dynamic. That is what Marcus (Rashford) brings.”

Ronaldo started in United’s last match against Newcastle at Old Trafford, which ended in a 0-0 stalemate.

Manchester United looked in a completely different form while playing against Tottenham as goals from Fred and Bruno Fernandes handed the club an emphatic win.

United rained shots on Tottenham in the first half but could not open their scoreboard. Antony’s curling effort against the post and Marcus Rashford’s powerful strike was well saved as United attempted to take early lead.

Manchester United finally broke the deadlock in the second half with Fred’s side-footed shot went past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris. Fernandes added one more to put the match to bed with his excellent flowing move.

“You see how we want to play, we get better on the pitch every time. Spurs are a magnificent team so far this season, I said to the lads in the dressing room it was enjoyable to watch you,” said ten Hag after the match.

“It was a squad performance. What we have seen today, we have 11 players who defend and 11 who attack. I am pleased with that. I will not say that I am totally satisfied. That has to be the standard at Manchester United.”
