By India Today Web Desk: Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik opened up about his exclusion from the national team for this year’s T20 World Cup in Australia. Malik said that his job was to perform whenever he got the chance to play and the decision to select him was team management’s and PCB’s decision.
Malik participated in the 2022 National T20 Cup after being ignored for Pakistan’s Asia Cup campaign, scoring 204 runs in nine innings at a strike rate of 140.68 with two fifty-plus scores. The veteran batsman played admirably in the 2022 Pakistan Super League, amassing 401 runs in 11 innings at a strike rate of 137.32, with three fifty-plus scores. He has not been selected in any T20I series since the match against Bangladesh after the T20 World Cup last November. Malik was not selected in the Pakistan squad for the T20 World Cup, but the 40-year-old showed no regret.
“My job is to play cricket whenever I get the opportunity. It’s team management’s call to pick me up or not. Whenever I get a chance, I will try to make the best out of it. Mujhe kisise koi problem nehi hain. Main kisike koi against nehi hu kyunki positive rehna has been a major reason behind the success of my career,” Malik said while speaking on Samaa TV.
Malik further revealed that while he was in constant touch with Babar, he gave him that space given his captaincy duties and added that he has never pressurized or tried to convince the skipper of his selection.
“We have been in touch consistently. Yes, earlier we used to talk more, but now he is a skipper and one should give him that space. Main khud iss cheez se guzra hu. Isiliye maine aajtak koi pressure nehi dala na kabhi dalunga na kabhi convince karne ki koshish karunga,” Malik added.
