By India Today Web Desk: Virat Kohli’s return to the India squad for the T20 World Cup warm-up match against Australia was far from impressive as the star batter was dismissed for 13-ball 19 by left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc at The Gabba on Monday. Starc exploited Kohli’s weakness against left-arm pacers as the Indian star was bounced out in his first match on the Australian surface ahead of the T20 World Cup.
Starc bowled a well-cooked bouncer around off and Virat Kohli tried to take on the challenge of pulling it but the ball took the top edge. It flew down to fine leg where Mitchell Marsh took the skier easily to end Kohli’s 19-run knock.
Kohli missed the tour of the West Indies and Zimbabwe and returned to the Asia Cup in September. Kohli ended his lean patch, hitting his maiden T20I hundred and 2 fifties at the Asia Cup. The former captain looked in good touch in the home series against Australia and South Africa, hitting two fifties in 5 matches.
Rohit will be leading India at an ICC World Cup event for the first time in his career. “It is a privilege. It is the first time in 15 years that I am captaining my country at a World Cup. We want to enjoy and have fun,” Rohit said at the toss.
India will open its T20 World Cup Super-12 campaign against Pakistan on October 23 in Melbourne. The two sides recently clashed twice at the Asia Cup, with India winning the first match and Pakistan bouncing back to take the second match.
