By India Today Web Desk: The West Indies’ tour to Pakistan has been rescheduled to 2024 after Cricket West Indies and the Pakistan Cricket Board came to a mutual agreement. The West Indies were scheduled to play a three-match T20I series in Pakistan in January 2023, which has been pushed forward to 2024.

In a statement, the PCB said the decision was made by both the cricket boards keeping in mind that 2024 is an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup year, and the renewed timing of the series could benefit both sides.

“The decision has been made considering 2024 is an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup year, with the event due to be hosted in the West Indies and USA in June 2024, and the shortest format matches will, therefore, help both the sides to prepare for the tournament,” a spokesperson said.

West Indies’ three-match T20I series against Pakistan was scheduled in between New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan late this year and the Pakistan Super League in 2023. The West Indies had toured Pakistan earlier this year for an ODI and T20I series but after the completion of the ODI series, the visitors reported several Covid-19 cases. This led to both boards agreeing to postpone the T20 series and hold it in early 2023.

Currently, both nations have their sights set on the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The West Indies are still fighting to secure a spot in the Super-12 stage after losing their opening encounter against minnows Scotland. However, they went on to beat Zimbabwe in their second Group-B game. They will now face Ireland in a must-win match to qualify for the Super-12 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has a heavyweight clash against rivals India to look forward to. The two nations are set to lock horns in the Super-12 stage on October 23.
